Decorating & Finishing Services

Once a piece is molded, KI Industries has a wide array of finishing capabilities to complete your products. Our finishing capabilities include chrome plating, PVD, plating & PVD with selective brushing, painting, laser-etching, pad printing, hot stamping, silk screening and roll coating. Formed aluminum components with rotary spin finishing or micro-briting may also be used to enhance the appearance.

KI Industries pioneered the plated and brushed-stainless-steel finish appearance on plastics. Today, we have a variety of plated finishes to meet the demands of the marketplace. If your design calls for a metallic painted finish, we have the capability to provide that as well.

With three different paint systems in Mexico and painting capability in our Taiwan and China facilities, we are able to manage projects that have varied sizes and shape of parts. From small control knobs and buttons to automotive center stack and steering wheel bezels and large appliance trim and handles we are able to select the type of system and geographic location best suited for your project.

Painting

Three automatic painting lines in Mexico

  • Capable of applying solvent borne, waterborne and 2K paints. Wet on wet
    and wet over cured paint possible.

Applications

  • System #1:
    • Pallet system:
      • Two independent cabins. Each with 3 axis robot.
      • System capable of applying up to 4 layers of paint.
      • Flexible paint line system. Rack technology automatically rotates products when needed to apply paint to all sides of the part.
    • Curing:
      • Oven with a flexible residence time between 20 and 40 minutes for drying of applied paint.
        • Air circulation oven handles up to 100oC operating temperature.
        • Ambient temperature “Cool Down” zone.
  • System #2:
    • Chain on edge line. Two independent cabins. Each with 6 axis robot.
    • Flexible paint line system. Rack technology automatically rotates
      products when needed to apply paint to all sides of the part.
    • Suited to large parts with complex surface geometries.
    • Curing:
      • Oven between paint booths allows for full cure between layers.
      • Air circulation oven handles up to 100°C operating temperature.
  • System #3:
    • Vertical pallet system on rotating table. Entire system housed in class 10k clean room environment. Currently equipped with a single pain booth with a six-axis robot. Modular design allows for additional booths to increase capacity or multi-layer applications.
    • System suited for small to medium size parts with varied geometries.
    • Curing:
      • The central oven can be fed by multiple booths to accommodate additional booths.
    • Surface Preparation:
      • Ionized air wash to remove debris and contaminants from the parts surfaces.
      • Flame treatment stations to prepare the surface for painting.

Physical  Vapor Deposition (PVD)

Decorative coatings for home appliances, automotive trims, and other applications

Physical vapor deposition (PVD) is a process which provides thin films and coatings.
 
During the PVD process, the material goes from a condensed phase to a vapor phase and then back to a thin film condensed phase.
 
At KI Industries, we use PVD to create a multitude of decorative finishes on our plastic injection molded parts.
